ENTP – The Gifted Smartass
In fiction, what do ENTP characters all have in common?
Vision. Humor. Disruption.
The Gifted Smartass is one of the most popular heroic personalities in fiction. Well, because regular people are wrong a lot. They hardly ever know how wrong they are and risk going through life with a host of false facts. More importantly, it is up to you, the Gifted Smartass, to diplomatically and conspicuously put these conformists in their place. As heroes and heroines go, yes, you have a big ego, but it’s only because you’ve earned your high sense of self-worth through a long history of successes. Impulsive and brash, you say exactly what’s on your mind even when it’s unpopular, no, especially when it’s unpopular. In fact, you love saying the most unpopular things possible because they’re usually true. The truth is what makes everyone so squeamish for some reason. Hardly your fault. And because of your highly attuned social skills, you know exactly how to deliver your alarming and perceptive truth-telling. You put plenty of flair in your language and are famous for never knowing when to shut up. In fact, you have a keen ability to use your words like weapons. You’ll get into other people’s heads and can be very persuasive.
You also understand the nuances of human nature and know how to devise a plan that works on the human level. While you make your share of mistakes, you never really go away. You’re resourceful enough to keep yourself in demand and manage to avoid true defeat. You’re simply too clever, too daring, and too damn likable to be despised completely. Your bizarre but undeniable wisdom make you indispensable. You’re hard to love. You keep people at a distance. But most watch you with fascination because your usually building something up from nothing. Creative and pioneering, you have the potential for breakthroughs. You’re the one who gets away with being quirky because no one can prove your eccentric ways to be flawed. Quite the contrary, you usually prove that the so-called “normal” ways of life are flawed. You make weird sound genius and smart look sexy.
Lastly, when it comes to launching your plan, you don’t always stick to the plan because a plan is merely a starting point. You need room to maneuver. Sometimes this will get you in trouble, but you’re used to it. Trouble is what you do best. Your recklessness is not always a curse though. You are extremely dangerous to your opponents because they know you won’t stand by when the time calls for action. You’ll do something unexpected and effective. People underestimate you all the time. With brilliant head games, a toothy smile, and a clever insult, you outmaneuver your many enemies. In heroic terms, you’re extremely memorable and usually become a fan favorite.
When the Gifted Smartass Becomes a Villain
Most Gifted Smartasses are concerned with good, thankfully. However, once and a while, they channel their unique and visionary activities toward evil. When they do, the Gifted Smartass sows chaos in the most mocking way possible. They don’t want to just defeat their opponents, they want to laugh at them; they want the world to laugh at them too. The ENTP villain will humiliate their foes with a brute force practical joke but the punchline almost always carries an underlying message. There is a principled style to their madness. Heroes and heroines with this personality already make an art form in rejecting the status quo, so villains add a little destruction to the equation. They often smile at their own cruelty (and their own genius) whenever making their point. One irony to their destructive campaigns is that the Gifted Smartass, for all their chaos, go about their business methodically and with a guiding code. They issue an orderly attack on order and leave behind a smoking pile of artful anarchy.
Frequency
