ESTJ – The Decision-Maker

In fiction, what do ESTJ characters all have in common?

Determination. Boldness. Composure.

You’re the boss. You speak up and speak out. While others wallow in uncertainty, while others chatter about the dangers ahead, while others prefer to play it safe, you step in and make the call for everyone. You take ownership of any campaign and don’t mind that’s it’s all on you now. A born leader, you make decisions for many people and direct events for success. People trust your leadership because although you are a person of action, you rarely miscalculate. You’re not impulsive. A good deal of contingency planning and careful consideration went into your decisions. You have a habit of thinking things through and bear an extraordinary capacity for being quick on your feet when decisions are needed. You’re rarely caught off guard. When a crisis comes, you also know not to panic. Your knack for deliberate action when the time calls for it makes you an ideal leader. Pie in the sky ideas and concepts aren’t your thing; however, as the Decision-Maker, you tend to surround yourself with capable counselors. You know how to direct others to carry out all the aspects to the plan even if you didn’t come up with the plan yourself. Your job isn’t to innovate. It’s to execute the plan. Your job isn’t to have all the answers. It’s to execute the plan. Your job isn’t to make sure everyone feels good about the plan. Your job is to execute the plan.

Many Decision-Makers end up in their leadership role naturally, and some of you may even be reluctant leaders, cast into the position out of necessity, not by choice. But you are comfortable in your leadership role. You don’t mind that so many people look to your leadership and rely on you. While not all of your decision will be popular ones, you’re not just some robot. You’re outgoing, fun, and personable. When you’re not sitting on the throne, you absolutely know how to cut loose and party. People are just as drawn to you outside of the workplace. But make no mistake, you use sound judgment, you’re decisive and uncompromising once the decision has been made. No endeavor will last long without people like you navigating the course and leading the way. All hail the Decision-Maker!

When Decision-Makers Become Villains:

The Decision-Maker is among the favorites in fiction to be a villain. Your personality type has some star power when it comes to its villain class. As shot-callers, the bad guys equally line up behind your authoritative presence. You are the clam center of the dark enterprise that intends to defeat the forces of good once and for all. Unlike other personality types, ESTJ villains almost never change sides or question their course of action. They stand firmly on one side of the conflict and are unwavering in their pursuit of victory. You may find yourself in command of an army. Natural leaders, you’re decisive and can be counted on to attempt decapitation-style strategies. You’re out to win. In fiction, this uncompromising. unflappable nature serves villains perfectly. You ensure that the bad guys won’t quite as long as you’re breathing. The bad guys may lose, but it won’t be from surrender. Not with you at the head.
