ISFJ – The Vigilant Protector
In fiction, what do ISFJ characters all have in common?
Courage. Compassion. Tenacity.
You are the bodyguard, the defender, or the shield-bearer for those who cannot defend themselves. A naturally heroic personality, you have an inborn sense to use your powers to defend others. You are selfless and courageous in your heroic expression. You may avoid official positions of authority because you prefer to report to others in power and to serve them. This is due mainly to your introspective nature, preference for solitude, and sense of duty. You simply like to work alone and have little appetite for politics and power games. You command respect despite your lack of official authority. People recognize your greatness and key role in the organization. You’re at your best when those you protect are threatened. You never hesitate to step forward and confront an attacker.
You’re patient and wise in your behavior, but quick to action when the time comes. What makes you special is your ability to step into the fray even when you may be over-matched. Your sense of obligation to serve others guides your decisions. And although you are a tough soul who smiles very little, your heart is truly full of compassion. You may have the biggest heart of all, but your channel your compassion into great deeds. You do what needs to be done and stay on high alert for possible danger. You know that deceptions are hard to spot and that peace today might only disguise a future threat to those whom you so fiercely protect. You have a skeptical mind and listen carefully when dangerous people give your assurances of good intent.
The Vigilant Protector also bears a judicious mind and an acute sense of justice. When you see something happening, even to people you don’t know, you have an unbearable urge to intervene. Because your will to action is strong, you accept an authority higher than your own. You prefer to be a part of a greater whole, and as long as you believe in the moral order of your group, you will never cease to defend the values and the people who look to you for heroic bravery.
When Vigilant Protectors Become Villains
It’s worth noting that there are few examples in fiction of true villains that are Vigilant Protectors. Most of the women in fiction stand true to their role as heroines and very few even show signs of a major dark side. Even the heroes tend to be squeaky clean. That said, the few villains are pretty dangerous. Typical of many Vigilant Protectors, all three villains opted to be in the service of power rather than lead on their own. All three are as persistent as their heroic counterparts and speak very little. With such a small sample. little else can be gleaned from the villainous characters. Lucky for the fiction world, most Vigilant Protectors are decisively on our side.
