Chambers Guardians

Whereas the hero’s journey features threshold guardians, who block the hero’s departure on a linear path, the heroine’s labyrinth features chamber guardians, who differ in specific ways. Each chamber guardian occupies a unique space in the labyrinth and possesses secret knowledge that is useful to the heroine. Chamber guardians almost always withhold information or assistance to the heroine.

Chamber guardians are people who embody fields of special knowledge. They don’t physically block the heroine’s passage but instead block the heroine’s attempt to gain important experience or knowledge. While chamber guardians may be intrigued by the heroine, but they often see the heroine as lost and may even suggest a return to the captivity of home. Chamber guardians are individuals. though, and heroines can overcome each one through her wits and convictions.
