Sympathy Toward the “Other”

Perhaps due to her dislike of the masked minotaur or perhaps due to her own feelings of suppression, the heroine often sympathizes with the stigmatized “others” within her native culture. She may seek to understand the origin of the stigmas bestowed upon the “others.”

The heroine may even come to view the so-called “others” as victims whom she seeks to protect. Her skepticism toward her native culture allows the heroine to question traditional stigmas in general. Her resolve to free the persecuted or suppressed others of her native culture sometimes drives the later conflict of the story.
